Home Again

15 February 2021

This afternoon I picked Joyce up at the hospital and brought her (and a trunkload of supplies) home. Not a peep from Dr. Tong about her home care yet, though.

Her release was delayed about 45 minutes. I found a parking place by the entrance and sat in the car watching a couple of newborns leave the hospital for the first time.

One father posed his wife and baby in front of the hospital for a photo. In the rain. A nurse offered to take the photo, so he jumped in. Then she suggested they pull their masks down.

When they did, they were all smiles.

There really was a trunkload of supplies accompanying Joyce. Three big hospital bags full.

She did have a dressing change early this morning but they didn't do one this afternoon. I'm waiting to hear if I'm on deck.

But it's nice to be free of the Wound VAC, at least temporarily.

That's one of the question I emailed Dr. Tong. Should we return it or keep it? I believe after two weeks of wet-to-dry dressing changes, she'll go on to black foam Wound VAC therapy. But I don't know.

That's about $224 in Wound VAC charges we could save if we don't need the machine. Which amounts to 32 bottles of prosecco.

Meanwhile, Joyce can't believe she's home. She says she lost 15 pounds -- and wants to know what's for dinner.
