More Vashe, Please?

22 March 2021

This is getting to be like Oliver Twist. "Please, sir, I want some more," he begs for gruel. But in our case, it's Vashe we want because we only have a day's supply left.

So when we went to the 1 p.m. appointment, we were hoping to get some more.

Funny thing, though. When we walked into the clinic, nobody was there. At all. We were standing around the reception desk to no avail when Cat the Physician's Assistant came out to get Joyce.

A physician's assistant does the work of a doctor, I learned, after a two-year post grad course of study that's not quite as arduous as med school. A nurse practitioner does the work of both a physician and a nurse. And nurses, well, do nurses's work.

So Joyce's debridement today was by Cat. And her co-pay was $10 instead of $20. And parking still cost us $8.

I was surprised to learn Joyce has an appointment with Dr. Tong tomorrow at 4 p.m. So we are starting two-a-week debridements. Salwa the LVN will do the dressing change in the morning.

And Thursday we get our second Pfizer shots.

OK, but what about the Vashe?

Turns out Cat didn't have any either. She had to get someone to take her across the hall to some mysterious location where Vashe is available if you know the secret word.

Which I do not know. So don't ask.

But Cat generously gave us the rest of the bottle when we left and promised to order more.

She also gave me a box of rubber gloves (well, they aren't really rubber, but you get the idea). I go through eight of those a day doing two dressing changes (one pair to remove stuff and a clean pair to put stuff in).

And yesterday I figured out how to order the dry supplies like the Mepilex bandages from Byram, the supplier. Without getting charged.

So we're OK for a few days more. Which is more than a lot of people can say.
