Aldenol

21 May 2021

Don't bother looking it up. It came to me in a dream last night. Aldenol. "You have to get Aldenol for her," some medical professional was urgently telling me.

Parking. We were both still a little sleepy for her morning appointment today.

But I couldn't remember the name. I kept calling it Denolal. "No, Aldenol," the white coat insisted, growing impatient. In my own dream. The nerve of some characters!

I suppose the crisis my subconscious was preoccupied with working out was this week's new twist in the case. Joyce's other leg has been bothering her. As in, "I have to go to the ER!"

I didn't take her. Instead we tried (separately but in this order): 1) two Aleve (in case it was arthritis), 2) Myoflex (in case it was a soft tissue strain), 3) a heating pad (in desperation) and 4) Acetomycin with Codeine (since we had to do the Lidocaine this morning anyway).

It came to me in a dream last night.

Nothing really helped.

She limped to the 9:30 appointment with Cat the physician's assistant for the debridement. We were supposed to limp over there yesterday afternoon, but Cat had an emergency so we rescheduled for this morning.

It took half an hour of debridement to get rid of the yellow slough that Ben the RN (who was just here to recertify Joyce for another month of in-home care) says is just a byproduct of tissue regeneration but has to be removed because it inhibits the good tissue from growing in.

Cat said the yellow slough is pretty aggressive so a debridement every two weeks isn't proving to be enough. We're shooting for once a week now.

She also said she'd put an order in for physical therapy to deal with Joyce's leg pain and limp.

We got home just in time for Ben's visit.

Joyce's vitals are all wonderful from her temperature to her oxygen levels to her blood pressure.

But I'd texted Ben yesterday about her leg pain. So he was briefed and examined the leg when he was here today. He didn't mention Aldenol but he did promise to contact Joyce's primary about it and follow up on the physical therapy order too.

Until then it's Aldenol or nothing.
