Back on Track

3 September 2021

Late yesterday the graffitied Byram truck pulled up and 48 Mepilex pads were delivered to our door. At last.

I'd been alternating between a covering of drape* and three 6x6 bandages applied in a diamond pattern with paper tape sealing the two long sides.

Just to stretch out the supplies we did have.

But 48 Mepilex at four a day gets us beyond the Sept. 10 surgery date. We have 44 left at the moment (Vic the LVN just left after doing this morning's dressing), good for 11 days and we only really have to do the dressing changes through Sept. 9 because Joyce will be leaving in the dark for the hospital on Sept. 10.

If, you know, the schedule holds.

Monday is Labor Day but there are no holidays for healthcare workers. Someone will come on Monday to do the dressing change. We're expecting Salwa, back from her honeymoon, but Vic is Plan B again.

It's reassuring that we have a couple of LVNs who are familiar with Joyce's situation and have had two excellent RNs supervising the case. They all miraculously managed to come up with supplies that Kaiser pharmacy and DME could not faithfully provide.

One more week of this. Then a long haul of something else.
