Morning Surgery

1 October 2021

As it turned out, Joyce never made it into the operating room last night. Instead, Dr. Tong took her in this morning. A few minutes ago Cat the Physician's Assistant called to update me.

"Everything went well," she said. Dr. Tong did a "cleaning of the base wound" to remove the yellow slough that had started forming. And Joyce tolerated the procedure fairly well.

The wound was closed with another Wound VAC dressing.

The plan going forward, Cat said, is to evaluate the wound again on Monday, which would be her next scheduled Wound VAC dressing change. If it's not clean, it will be back to the operating room.

But even if it's clean, they'll want to re-evaluate it on Wednesday during the next dressing change before being confident they can safely release her to home care.

Cat said she would visit her late this afternoon. And I'll go over around 2 p.m. myself.

Meanwhile Joyce has Anne Youngson's new novel The Narrowboat Summer to amuse her. And amusing it is.
