Sleeping Beauty

7 March 2022

Too gassed to recount the day, sorry. But it was eventful, starting with the usual IV drip in the morning and a dash to the clinic where Alysse the Physician's Assistant took the Wound VAC dressing off to look at the wound and liked what she saw.

We had an hour to kill before our first hyperbaric treatment so we drove over to the Presidio on a warm and sunny day and parked at the overlook to take a walk a little longer than her usual around-the-block tour.

Then we drove to St. Francis Hospital, arriving half an hour early. But that was just fine. It gave them plenty of time to get her undressed and prepped for the therapy.

I stayed there and when they had gotten her up to pressure I sat next to the machine, looking in at her and telling her how many more minutes were left. She was quite impatient.

She went through three of Kathy the LVN's movie recommendation on Netflix before it was over. She's not a Netflix kind of girl.

But she handled the experience well for the first time, they all said. Thurman, Mike, Kathy, Jessica. They take care of you like you are somebody famous.

And they validate parking.

We got home just after Donna the RN arrived to change Joyce's midline dressing, take blood and put her Wound VAC dressing back on (which Joyce was not prepared for).

And then I made dinner. Turkey saltimbocca with penne in a white sauce with black olives and capers after a caprese salad.

Yep, too gassed to tell you the story. And tomorrow it's physical therapy, the social worker and the second oxygen session. But this time I'm bringing our Montalbano DVDs so Joyce has a distraction she enjoys.
