Dancing With Physical Therapists

29 May 2022

On Friday Julie the Physical Therapist resumed Joyce's treatment after quite a long absence. We hadn't seen her since before the April 27 surgery even though Rhonda had come by to qualify Joyce for the sessions as soon as Joyce came home.

I had been a little remiss in not chasing this down but Joyce wasn't anxious to resume the short but helpful sessions.

But two Fridays ago I mentioned it to Sami the LVN and she texted both Rhonda and Julie to find out what was going on.

And last week Julie called to set up an appointment on Friday. And on Friday, we heard from Rhonda:

Hey! So sorry Julie hasn't been coming to see Joyce. I didn't realize it or I would have intervened sooner. Someone in the office mistakenly deleted Joyce's PT visits in the system, and Julie just thought she wasn't supposed to be seen. It's a stupid mistake that shouldn't happen, and I'm so sorry it impacted Joyce's care. I had a long talk with both Julie and the office, and it won't happen again. Really, really sorry about this!

We had this problem with the office before, in fact, for Joyce's last visit before surgery. But maybe it's all straightened out now. She has quite a few weekly visits left.

Julie was impressed with Joyce's progress.

She thought she was stronger, which Dr. Tong had noticed too, and her range of motion with the leg had increased.

They did some exercises at the sink and then Joyce walked up and down the stairs inside the house, taking the stairs one leg at a time instead of climbing up with one leg and lifting the other to follow.

But it was too windy to walk around the block.

I did tell Julie that Joyce had walked to CVS and Mollie Stone's the other day and she was delighted to hear that. Since she lives around here she knew how far a walk that was. More than around the block.

And yesterday Joyce made the same trek to get some scones for our Sunday brunch of scrambled eggs with green onions and lox. And prosecco.

Julie will be back next week to keep the music playing. Day to be determined.
