Santyl, Santyl, Santyl

23 July 2022

This happens every time!" Joyce complained. And she's right. We just can't complete a routine order for Santyl. Not even if it's a reorder of the current prescription.

You'll remember we thought we had this all figured out when we Got It! last time. That was six tubes of 30g each on June 7 for $94.

It's considered a 42-day supply.

And we're down to the last tube (just opened today) of that order, which will last a week. So Thursday, which was 44 days after that order (well outside the penalty period for an early order which would cost more), we reordered.

The automated system quoted a price estimate of $360.95. So we phoned the pharmacy but couldn't talk to anyone. We ordered through the automated phone system, which didn't quote a price and said it would be available next Monday after noon.

SANTYLE PRICING
Date Quantity Price Per 30g Tube
May 21 3 tubes $94 $31.33
June 7 6 tubes $94 $15.67
July 22 6 tubes $361 $60.17

Our Santyl Pricing. We've never paid the same price yet.

We opted to pick up the order at the pharmacy because the system quoted a 7 to 10 day mail delivery time and we will need the stuff in 7 days.

Yesterday, just a day after the order, we got a text in the morning saying the order had been unexpectedly delayed. But by the end of the day, we got another text saying it was ready for pickup.

For $360.95.

We thought an explanation was in order, so we called the pharmacy around 4:45 p.m. Wait time was 55 minutes to an hour and half due to "high call volumes." The pharmacy closes at 5:30 p.m. We weren't going to get an answer.

Joyce hung in there on hold for a while, listening to the same do-you-know messages over and over until 5:30. Then she hung up.

We'll wait until Monday to pick it up. But we'll bring the credit card receipt for the last order with us and ask for an explanation for that 384 percent price increase in 44 days.

We deserve one.
