Today's mail brought Joyce a bill from Dignity Health for $21,029.40. It seems Medicare was a little short on the $54,768 hyperbaric oxygen treatments Joyce had earlier this year.
Kaiser approved the 40 treatments and Joyce paid her $105 copay. So this was a surprise.
She didn't know what to do about it. I told her to call Kaiser's customer service line and see what they say.
She got a callback in about five minutes from Renee who explained it sounded like a balance bill. Renee tried but couldn't get through Dignity Health's customer service line. So she told Joyce to send a copy of the bill to Kaiser's Special Services division in Oakland.
We faxed that to them a few minutes ago. But we're not holding our breath.
