Just got back from the clinic where Cat the Physician's Assistant took a look at Joyce's wound. It's the first evaluation Joyce has had since her visit with Dr. Tong in August.
As is the custom, I waited out the visit in the waiting room.
When Cat had evaluated the wound and dressed it again, she came out to tell me she would put in an order for Dakin's Solution. She thought it might help going back to that for two weeks instead of the Santyl.
That's just water and bleach. Santyl eats away at the slough chemically. And it's helped. I was a bit disappointed.
But Dakin's Solution in the strength she prescribed is hard to get. It's a special order for the pharmacy and they don't always come through, suggesting Amazon because you can't get it at CVS or Walgreens.
So we may be using Santyl after all. We'll see what happens.
She had told Joyce she didn't think the wound had changed much. She didn't see it in August, so that's disappointing too. I've seen it change with the Santyl and I would hope someone who hasn't seen it in months would have been struck by the change. "Much" might be a bit too colorful to describe the change but still.
No appointment was made for November. But I'm sure we'll be in touch about the Dakin's Solution.
