Joyce had an appointment with Dr. Tong yesterday afternoon. It was her monthly checkup, so to speak, but entailed a bit more.
After a nurse checked vitals (which Kristine the LVN had checked in the morning when she changed Joyce's dressing), Dr. Tong popped in to do a debridement and take biopsies to monitor the wound tissue for any cancer.
She was, Joyce said, comically forgetting one supply or another, dashing out of the room to get it and returning only to drop things. She dropped a few Ace bandages and, rather than toss them, she put them in a bag for Joyce to take home. "You can wash them," she said.
But she was also pleased with the condition of the wound.
It's smaller and it's healthy and everything is going in the right direction. So, she said, let's just stay the course for now.
No surgery. Let the wound heal itself.
"Dr. Mike is doing a good job," she joked.
