My phone rang more insistently than usual the other day so I answered it. "They're here!" Joyce said with excitement.
Visitors. Clockwise from Viv at noon to Michael, Joyce, Mary, Joseph, Judy, Carol and Whitney.
I hadn't heard her so excited in a long time.
She was looking forward to seeing her sisters Carol, Mary and Judy plus Carol's daughter Whitney and Whitney's daughter Vivian. But nothing compared to seeing them right there in her front room.
"When are you coming home?" she asked.
As it turned out, for three days our visitors brought over lunch while I was at the nursing home with my mother. So I didn't get to spend much time with them and none outside the house.
Sisters. Four out of five ain't bad. Judy, Carol, Joyce and Mary.
But I was there Tuesday when two more guests arrived. Joey and Michael drove up from LA for the afternoon.
Their visit was not long enough, of course. It never is. But it was long enough after all to share not just Joyce's excitement but all the love in the room.
