Golden Heights

3 November 2024

Golden Heights is the name of the skilled nursing facility where Joyce has been moved. It's next door to Golden Pavilion where my mother was last year. They seem to be affiliated.

Mundstock took me over yesterday after. And I brought Joyce's ballot so she could vote. Since I can't see straight, he helped her read through it. And she voted.

He gave me a ride home so I didn't have to walk 2.5 miles to Daly City BART. There is no shuttle from the hospital on the hill to that station on the weekends. And even on weekdays it's only commute hours, ending too early for me in the morning and at 5:15 in the evening.

Apparently I can use my Muni Clipper card to transfer to SamTrans in the morning to get to Golden Heights, although I'm not sure about that. The interagency arrangements are not clear. But coming home, I'd have to catch that shuttle. One way or another I have to contain costs. SamTrans alone is $5.50 a day.

Too bad I still can't drive. Or see.

Late yesterday afternoon Alice Mundstock called me. She's Number Two on Joyce's contact list. Golden Pavilion had to report Joyce's vital signs and they couldn't reach me for some reason.

Her vital signs were fine. But she had gotten out of bed, walked to the bathroom in the room to use the toilet and hadn't been able to get up from the toilet. So the staff had to rescue her.

She called me (which may be why Golden Heights couldn't reach me) embarrassed. But I praised her effort. Keep trying. They are there to help you. They're used to it.

This morning she called again, disoriented. Why is she there? What's happening?

Mundstock is taking me back this afternoon. Joyce has a couple of bills to pay today. And I have to secure her phone charger to the loose outlet in her wall with an extension cord.

More to come, no doubt.
