Sister Judy with nephews Andy and Joey drove down from Sacramento this morning to celebrate Joyce's birthday. She was surprised and delighted.
Along with a pink raspberry and macaroon cake, I smuggled in a bottle of Martinelli's cider and a small bottle of Carpene-Malvolti processo, which we drank from paper cups.
But not before she stood up from the bed with Cassie and transferred to the wheelchair. She was only a little afraid when she wobbled a bit on her feet but it was her strongest effort yet.
We rolled down to the Pacific Room, the large rec room with big tables, and set up for the party.
Joey decorated the cake with candles and did the cutting while Andy dispersed the contraband.
And Joyce ate her whole piece of cake!
Here's a scrapbook of photos of the party showing her empty plate (a first!) and her sunset.
