Catching Up

The day after our visit to the memory clinic, Joyce walked halfway around the nursing home. Since then, though she's refused to get out of the chair to walk.
Today her roommate mentioned there was food in the rec room, so Christina ran down there to get her a cupcake and a croissant sandwich before they disappeared. But the occupational therapist called the speech therapist to make sure she could eat solid food. Which is kind of ridiculous because I've been bringing her pizza slices from home. Nobody knew that.
They determined she could have the croissant without the slice of ham but with the soft American heese and she could have the cupcake. Cassie even brought her a second cupcake she had kept for herself. Joyce ate those and then had a little lunch which was beef lasagna and her usual milk, coffee and prune juice. Again, she only ate about two bites of anything.
And also once again, she refused to get up and walk with Cassie, but Cassie only wanted to take her outside to get some fresh air and sunshine. So Christina, Kevin, Cassie, Joyce and I all went outside as Joyce complained about being cold even though she was wearing a jacket and a blanket. She refused Cassie's suggestion to take a walk, but when Kevin suggested we go in the gym and work on the Spirit Cycle she agreed.
When we got to the gym though the SciFit it was free and since she hadn't been walking, I thought it might be helpful for her to use the SciFit (as seen above from earlier this month with Cassie) which exercises both her arms and her legs. So they put her on that and she spent almost half an hour on it taking frequent breaks.
On the way back to bed I parked the wheelchair in the hallway and had her get up and walk to the bed with the walker. She didn't complain about that walk at all since she wanted to go back to bed. And she did just fine turning around and sitting down on the bed.
That made it a pretty good day. Better than the rest of the week has been.
