An Improvement

5 March 2025

Today was different. It was not the same as the day before. It was, in fact, better.

After I got her shoes on and moved her to the side of the bed, she dressed herself as easily as she used to at home. No falling backward on the bed as she put her dress on, no complaints.

She did some chair exercises in the gym, including a few with weights before her four sets of 25 "steps" (more like 50) on the SciFit. "Ms. Joyce, you're a pro on that now," Cassie encouraged her.

I set her up for lunch in the hall but Wendy and Neil came by to walk her across the building before the food arrived.

Going the length of the building is 160 feet. Going across it is 80 feet.

Usually she stops every 20-30 feet, sitting down in the chair after screaming, "I can't do it." She thinks she's going to fall.

But today she didn't scream at all.

And she walked the entire width without sitting in the chair, 80 feet. On the way back (to make 160 feet), she did sit down once but without screaming.

It took so little time, she was back at her table before lunch arrived.

I DID WEIGH HER before lunch at 151 with the 37 lb. wheelchair. I've added her current weight to the home page for her blog because it's a big issue. She's wasting away.

She'll eat the ice cream and take a bite of each thing on the tray but drinks everything, so I've been giving her a Boost drink with lunch.

Of course, it's not just lunch but the nurses let me know she doesn't touch breakfast. And I assume she isn't eating dinner either, although I never see anyone on that shift.

I wheeled her into the bathroom to brush her teeth today, too, in case that has anything to do with her avoidance of solid food.

Fingers crossed.
