Wendy and Neil, the RNAs, grabbed Joyce before lunch time to take her for a walk. They put a PT belt around her as something of a handle, lift her out of the wheelchair and stand on each side of her as she walks down the hall. I bring up the rear with the wheelchair so she has a place to plop when she's pooped.
She's never happy to get out of the chair and walk. But she's been less unhappy about it lately. She'll refuse but she doesn't hold out long, even though it still scares her.
Wendy set her up at one end of the longest hall and she walked halfway, sitting down just once. Then she walked the second half without sitting down and even turned the corner to walk halfway down the shot hallway.
That's 200 feet.
I asked Wendy how many times a week they walk her. She said they have her two times a week. With seems like a crime now that she's able to do it. She suggested I talk to Deb, who is in charge of the PTs and RNAs.
But after I got Joyce on the SciFit, Kevin the PT came by and I asked him what the trick was to getting more sessions with the RNAs. "I'll talk to Deb about it," he promised.
So we'll see. I'd do it myself except there's only one of me and she's still afraid of falling so one of me is not particularly reassuring.
But the more activity, the better. I'm hoping to get her into a car for her March 25 debridement. And there are still stairs to conquer.
But it is nice to see some progress.
