A New Dress

26 March 2025

Yesterday's debridement went well after Jennifer the RN put Lidocaine on the wound to numb it. Getting in and out of the chair that converts into a bed remains a challenge. It's too large to sit in and too bumpy to lie down in.

While she was dressed this time, Joyce was distressed to see she was not wearing a slip. Cassie the Physical Therapist had taken it off for some reason, I learned later.

Joyce was so distressed she asked Jennifer if she had one. Jennifer, who wears Figs pants, did not, of course, but she hadn't it well, as if it were a normal question one might ask.

Oh, and she opted for van transport instead of going in our car.

BUT AS IF by divine intervention, today a package arrived for her that was a present from brother John and sister-in-law Kim. Inside was a new dress. In exactly the style Joyce likes.

So she put it on and wore it all day. I took a photo of her on the SciFit (above) wearing it and she sent it to them to thank them.

Later, as we looked at the fish tank, she told me, "I really like this dress." Which means I can launder the two old ones I brought her, I think.

I HEARD FROM HER shortly after I got home.

She called to tell me "some homeless man" came into her room, sat in the chair and refused to leave, telling her, "This is my chair."

She rang to call button and two staff guys came to escort the fellow out.

I'll have to find out what happened tomorrow when the same shift is working but in the meantime I told her it probably wasn't a homeless guy. There aren't any homeless guys around there, I told her.

It was probably a resident who got confused and thought he was in his own room.

My other used to think some random room was hers (even after I pointed out it didn't have her name on the door) and Joyce has made the same mistake, wondering where her room is. So she believed me.

I'm sure the new dress had nothing to do with. Pretty sure, anyway.
