Christina called wondering if Joyce needed her nails done. It's been a while so she drove me to Golden Heights and trimmed Joyce's fingernails after I got her up and she dressed herself.

Joyce was attentive and thanked Christina several times.
We were going to go the gym next but the food cart had arrived so I took Joyce's tray to the Pacific Room and we all sat around a big table chatting while Joyce had her lunch.
Which was the usual. Not much.
She drank her prune juice and milk, had one sweet potato fry, didn't touch the fish sandwich I cut up for her or the yogurt or the half sandwich (peanut butter and jelly). She did eat the ice cream and then had a high protein Boost.
After that we went to the gym and she worked on the SciFit for 20 minutes with only short breaks, doing sets of 100 steps at a time.
Because Christina was there, I got the walker out of Joyce's room and set her up to walk across the short hall with me. Christina followed closely behind with the chair in case Joyce wanted to stop and sit.
But she didn't. She made it all the way across.
It was the first time she's walked with me, I told Christina.
Kevin the Physical Therapist saw us and confirmed I was doing it the right way. I don't know that they've seen her after Tuesday, which puzzles me, but if I'm still puzzled next week, I'll ask them about it.
Joyce didn't want to walk back to her room, so Christina wheeled her back and we left her sitting in the chair for the afternoon.
After we left, Christina said she noticed a marked change in Joyce. She hadn't seen her work on the SciFit that well or walk that far before. She wondered if it was the increased dosage of Lexapro but that takes weeks to kick in and it's only been days.
"It's the clothes," Christina said. And I agreed. There is something about getting up and getting dressed every day that makes you feel like yourself.
And that's what Christina most noticed. Joyce was more like her old self.
