Today was a first in two ways. But it didn't start out very well. When I got Joyce up to get dressed, she kept falling backward from her sitting position on the edge of the bed. And when she falls like that, she screams.

Not just once but several times. The good news is that it alerted Cassie the Physical Therapist that I was there, so she came into the room and helped Joyce stand up, asking her if she had to use the bathroom (commode training is on the PT list). But she didn't.
Kevin came by about that time and we arranged for me to take her to the gym to work on the SciFit and then we'd try the stairs again. And that's what we did.
Except this time, they tried the other side of the stairs, which are shorter than a normal stair but there are six of them instead of four.
Joyce didn't bat an eye. She got up from the wheelchair, put her hands on the railings and climbed up with her good leg, pulling her injured leg up after. Step after step to the top.
Then she turned around and went back down.* And it finally occurred to me to take a photo of the action.
The marching exercise yesterday must have helped.
Cassie brought a commode over and watched as Joyce transitioned from the wheelchair to the commode and back again.
It isn't clear if she'll be able to use a commode (or a toilet for that matter) but we do have to find out.
So two firsts. Stairs and commode.
