Naturally, I forgot to bring small scissors with me to Golden Heights today. But there's a large CVS pharmacy just off the freeway exit so I run in there to have a look.
They have way too many options for an amateur like me to figure out. While I'm looking up a few of them on my phone, I remember I took a fingernail cutter to her some time ago when I brought her floss and toothpaste.
So I try that and do trim the longest nails back about half. Some of them have broken or split, though. Nothing I can do about that. She still needs a podiatrist.
But at least she should be a little more comfortable in her shoes now.

SHE WALKS to the fish tank where the chair I put was moved to the side. Binita the RN runs over to help reposition the chair and help Joyce sit. She compliments her on walking that far. She hasn't seen her walk in a while, apparently.
Joyce weighs the same as yesterday. Exactly.
I brought the iPad so she can play the piano but the Pacific room is inexplicably locked again.
So we go to the gym where she works on the Spirit Cycle until the SciFit is free.
After three sets of 125 on the SciFit, Joyce has lunch. A few bites. They don't have the high protein Boost already, so I give her one with a little less.

A CNA sees Joyce's left eye is red and reports it to the RN, I learn later when I ask the RN to have a look at it. She said she'd inform the doctor.
But by then I'd given Joyce a cold compress with a wash cloth and had her rinse out her eye standing at the bathroom sink (that's a first). Then she sat to brush her teeth.
When I rolled her back to the side of the bed, I got some hand sanitizer and cleaned her nails. I'd seen Christina clean her nails so I had a clue.
I suspect Joyce wiped her eye with a dirty nail and got it infected, which used to happen to my mother.
You'd think it wouldn't be a big deal to keep a patient's fingernails clean and toenails cut but it's just two more things that are overlooked in these places.
Every now and then I'm glad I'm looking after her, little that I know.
