In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the family separation protests, plant personalities, macOS photo workflows, an inexpensive monolight, testing a lens, fireworks and shortcut keys.
- Alan Taylor presents 31 Photos From the Nationwide Families Belong Together Marches. "Demonstrators in more than 700 locations called for the swift reunification of immigrant families separated by border agencies, and an end to the policies that cause so many separations," he notes.
- German photographer Frederik Busch invites you to Meet the Personalities Behind These German Office Plants. He explains, "I have a sensitivity for plants. I approach them as beings, as living organisms and at the same time as kinetic sculptures. They just move very slowly." And don't have to be walked twice a day.
- Graham K. Rogers has published a three-part series on Rethinking Photo Workflows on macOS. Links to the more recent posts are at the bottom.
- Kirk Tuck has been on a Search for an Affordable and Feature Rich Monolight. He found the $189 Vision VC-400 HS.
- Thom Hogan answers the eternal question: How Do You Test a Lens? But he does it with some practical advice and a clever test shot, putting the whole thing in, uh, perspective.
- It's traditional to publish a fireworks story this time of year. And last year, we published Of Fireworks We Singe. This task is more of a reference work than a news story. The details don't change. Although, one update is worth mentioning. In Tried and True -- Methods for Shooting Fireworks, Joe McNally reprises his annual advice.
- Shutterstock has published The Graphic Designer's Periodic Table of Adobe Shortcut Keys, a free PDF that lists Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop shortcuts.
