In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Peter Lindbergh, Andy Batt, the latest camera bodies, eyes, San Francisco by drone, nature, #ProductiveAt Home and Dan Ginn's Palm.
- The Guardian has published a portfolio of The Pioneering Work of Peter Lindbergh, who passed away last year.
- Andy Batt escapes his commercial work with some landscapes that "feel like an exploration of myself as much as they are about the land."
- In What We Think of the Latest Camera Bodies, the LensRentals crew kills a little time discussing the Canon R/1DX Mark III, Nikon's D780/Z 6/FTZ adapter, the Fujifilm X-T3/T4 and the Leica M10 Monochrom.
- In How to Photograph Eyes in Portrait Photography, Jasenka Grujin lists 10 points to keep in mind. Our favorite is No. 4: The Important of Catchlights. It was a secret practiced by the portrait painters that seems neglected in the era of photography.
- Space Race Studio has released a 3:34 drone exploration of the deserted areas of San Francisco where we are in week two of a shelter-in-place order. As we pointed out, the residential streets are not deserted with families "rediscovering walking" as one neighbor put it the other day.
- In Love in the Time of the Coronavirus, Harold Davis reflects on his sheltering-in-place with a family of six. "In a very real sense, nature just doesn't care," he writes. "Through years spent hiking in the mountains from Alaska to Maine, I've learned that, however much one loves nature and loves being in nature, you just have to take nature as an extrinsic force that cannot be reasoned with."
- Derrick Story invites you to Share Your Pictures of Efficiency During Shelter-in-Place by posting to the Public Photograhy Group with the hashtag #ProductiveAt Home.
- Travel photographer Dan Ginn is marooned in an Airbnb in Medellin, Colombia, where Photography Is Keeping Me Sane using a 3.3-inch Palm phone to take pictures. It's reminded him that good photography is "not about megapixels and sensor size, but solid composition, intriguing subjects and the right angles."
