In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Johnson Publishing Collection archive, Photoclass2021, Adam Elmakias, Andrew Molitor, multiple displays on the M1 and Apple Silicon software compatibility.
- 75 Years of Ebony Magazine lets you explore images from the Johnson Publishing Collection archive selected by Getty curator LeRonn Brooks and NMAAHC curator Aaron Bryant. Amy Hood introduces the site in Explore 75 Years of Ebony Magazine.
- Photoclass2021 is starting soon on Reddit. Jan.1, to be exact. You subscribe to the sub and do the assignments. Here's last year's class of 42 assignments.
- Music photographer Adam Elmakias is dealing with the pandemic by building a Virtual Music Photography Gallery. The online gallery opens tomorrow.
- Andrew Molitor considers the quaint notion that Photos Lie! "But ... so what? It is an experience of the thing, whatever the thing was or at least it's similar to an experience of the thing," he writes.
- Ruslan Tulupov sets up Six Displays Running on M1 Mac Mini, Macbook Air, which is not officially supported:
- Is Apple Silicon Ready? answers its own question with a chart of applications that 1) offer native M1 support, 2) run on Rosetta 2 only or 3) are not working. Click on the headings to sort the chart. And it's more than a chart with links to further information where available.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
