In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at more Heroines, Caryatis, 15 DIY cameras, LUTs, changing careers and a BorrowLenses discount.

  • Seven Groundbreaking Female Photographers features seven of the 50 women added this year to the roster of the independent charity Hundred+ Heroines founded by Del Barrett.
  • In Caryatis, George Tatakis presents Greek women's traditional costumes in the 21st century. "The intention behind my work is not to be ethnographic or to create a mere record of traditional Greek costumes -- although it might serve this purpose as well -- but rather to express my inner self and obsessions prompted by Greek traditions," he says.
  • Ellyn Kail showcases 15 DIY Cameras That'll Blow Your Mind. Oddly enough, the piece includes a number of Pro Tips in case you succumb to the idea of building your own. Then there's P. Brownewell's 10-foot behemoth for macrophotography.
  • In LUTs to Enhance the Mood of the Moment, Derrick Story describes how he uses color Lookup Tables. "They can be an excellent finishing touch," he writes.
  • In Nearly 20 Pct. of Photographers Thinking of Changing Career, but Signs of Hope, Currys PC World and Canon surveyed U.K. photographers. "The sectors hit the hardest by a loss of income are newborn baby, family and wedding photography, with 96 percent of related businesses seeing a decrease in bookings over the past year, mainly as a result of the pandemic and the various lockdowns," the survey found.
  • BorrowLenses is offering 15 percent off rentals when you use the code DEC15 or seven free rental days when your rental is for seven or more days when you use the code 7FOR7.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
