In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Jana Sophia Nolle, Robert Rieger, light placement, the Fujifilm GFX 100S, nightmares, the Great British Photography Challenge and Twitter's AI cropping tool.
- In Present and Past: Burma's Democratic Transition, Jana Sophia Nolle talks about the situation in Myanmar. "The brutal violence of the military junta and the police represents a catastrophic step backwards for the country and the population is traumatised, once again," she says. She photographed a difference country five years ago.
- In An Enchanting Portrait of the Contemporary Woman, Devid Gualandris spotlights German photographer Robert Rieger's editorial series for Italian fashion brand Emil. "Shot in an idyllic natural setting next to the brand's headquarters in the north of Italy, the collection of images is a meditation on the female form and its beauty," he writes.
- Zach Sutton explains How the Light Placement Alters Your Subjects.
- Derrick Story takes a Fujifilm GFX 100S with two lenses on assignment in San Jose. "Between the large sensor size, image stabilization, primo prime lens and Fujifilm technology, I had a huge safety net that let me focus on the compositions and subject and not really concern myself with camera settings," he writes.
- Introspection Photography Fear and Nightmares Oh my. Kirk Tuck reveals what his dreams reveal -- and we suspect his is not an isolated case. It's how we all roll.
- The BBC's Great British Photography Challenge showcases six UK photographers in a masterclass as they attempt to make a name for themselves. The first hour-long broadcast is set in Brighton while the second visits a Birmingham market. The Guardian has more on the reality TV series in Rankin Heads the Great British Photography Challenge.
