7 January 2022

What better way to start out a new year than with a demolition? When we stumbled across this old building being taken apart board by board, we weren't sure it was actually being demolished. We thought maybe it was just being remodeled.

But curiosity drove us back a couple more times, enough to convince us that the place was being taken down, not restored. It was, after all, from another era. A simpler one. (We did happen to find a similar building the day after publishing this piece.)

The first 15 shots were taken the first time we came across the site. They were all taken with the Nikon D300. The last shots were taken the second time we passed by, two days later, this time with the Olympus E-PL1.

The third time we passed by, we didn't take any photos. The crew of half a dozen guys were taking the first story down board by board with crow bars. We left them to it.

The site is on the northern side of Edgehill Mountain, the very mountain where, on the west side, some enterprising rich guy bought five lots to build monster homes on a sheer and crumbling cliff of cert. Not a bright idea. And the neighborhood rose up in revolt.

We're not sure what's going to happen on this site. But something will happen.

Anyway, it's a refreshing approach to the new year. Take something old down and replace it with something new.

With no regrets.
