In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Kharkiv School, the Getty Center, backlighting and an industry report.
- The Guardian presents images from The Kharkiv School of Photography "notable for a sensitivity toward experimenting with the photographic image and reflections on the social and political reality of the Soviet and post-Soviet eras." Several photographers of the group remain in Kharkiv, while others escaped only to leave behind their archives.
- Say Cheese! suggests 25 scenic spots at the Getty Center to pose for selfies. "To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Center, a new self-guided tour highlights 25 of the most picturesque spots to take that perfect picture," the piece explains. "While on-site, look for the Getty 25 photo icon."
- Jasenka Grujin covers Backlighting Techniques that "capture beautiful images with silhouettes, rim lighting or starbursts."
- In The Pandemic Exacerbated Inequities in Photography Industry, Report Says, Jasmine Liu reports, among other findings, "More than half of photographers polled said they carried a 'great deal' to a 'moderate' amount of debt."
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
