In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at gifts, Man Ray, obsolescence, the Leica Q2 and Alec Soth.
- Kent DuFault has compiled The Best Gifts for Photographers in several price ranges. Bags and tripods not included. He does limit the list to Amazon affiliate links, which excludes some of our favorites.
- Mike Johnston covers the New All-Time Record Set for a Photograph, which was $12.4 million for Man Ray's Le Violon d'Ingres. We've never liked it. The violin F holes are too dark and flat, like some amateurish photo composition. Good project: edit Man Ray's image.
- Kirk Tuck is Lost in the Sea of Photography. "Today I am thinking about obsolescence and commercial photography," he writes before divulging that he is about to toss out anything (non-personal) he did that's over five years old.
- In Leica Q2 Monochrom EDR, Fake ISO, Jim Kasson compares the dynamic range of the Q2's ISO 100 and 200 settings.
- Andrew Molitor takes on Alec Soth, Dissolutions (Sleeping by the Mississippi) and NFTs as a Minnesotan.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
