In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Brad Walls, Night mode, a retainer, the 17mm f1.4 TTArtisan prime, Christy Bowe and a few opportunities.

  • Vacant is a new series by Brad Walls inspired by his fascination with surrealism and geometric art. "I've always enjoyed Retrofuturism, the tension between the future and the past is intriguing. Movies like Gattaca, Blade Runner and Beyond the Black Rainbow have been pivotal in my understanding of the genre," he says.
  • Does Night Mode Turn the Tables? Mike Johnston wonders after playing with his new iPhone 13 Pro last night, photographing in the dark. "The consequence for me is that it's the very first time I've ever thought that a phone camera could actually be preferable to a larger one," he writes.
  • Rob Haggart negotiates a Photography Retainer for Social Media at $60,000. "The first step was to determine how much to charge for photography fees and expenses and outline the needs of the project," he writes.
  • Kirk Tuck takes the 17mm f1.4 TTArtisan prime for a walk downtown and runs into a man in need. "My biggest pet peeve is when people don't at least take a moment to see what someone's story is," he writes. So he took a moment.
  • White House Press Corps photographer Christy Bowe, who has covered five consecutive administrations, has published a 202-page book of her images in Eyes That Speak. It covers her work from January 1993 through January 2021 covering two presidential impeachments, eight presidential inaugurations and U.S. Supreme Court Justice confirmation hearings, not to mention everything else going on from galas to insurrections.
  • Colossal's listing of July 2022 Opportunities includes a few for photographers.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
