In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Queen Elizabeth II, Bird Photographer of the Year, old portraits, Helichrysum Bracteatum and the iPhone 14'S Camera.
- The BBC celebrates the life of Queen Elizabeth II with A Life in Pictures. The Asssociated Press shows how A World Mourns Queen Elizabeth II. And Reuters fondly remembers What Queen Elizabeth Said When Asked 'Have You Ever Met the Queen?'
- The Guardian has published the winners of the Bird Photographer of the Year contest in which over 20,000 images were entered.
- Kirk Tuck is inspired by his own Old Portraits. He also has some advice to getting good ones and avoiding those big smiles that make those mirrors to the soul nothing more than little slits.
- Harold Davis posed a Helichrysum Bracteatum on his light box before escaping to Maine to teach a workshop.
- Scott Kelby is Disappointed in the iPhone 14'S Camera because it doesn't have a 10x zoom. Even a 3x zoom with a 48-Mp sensor isn't enough for him. It's just not the same, he writes. But he's getting one anyway because it's a better camera than his old iPhone.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
