In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Richard Scheuer, Kenny Hurtado, Izabela Radwanska Zhang, Lightroom Mobile, Pixelmator Pro 3.2, handmade photo gifts and a special milestone.

  • In Facing the World With Courage, Mee-Lai Stone presents Richard Scheuer's previously unseen photographs from 1934 depicting ordinary people going about their daily lives despite the growing threat of a second world war.
  • Heidi Volpe interviews Kenny Hurtado about National Geographic and Landscapes. He was a surf photographer until he moved to Missouri where he works as an EMT when not shooting landscapes.
  • In Art Photography Is Free From Rules, Joanna Cresswell interviews Izabela Radwanska Zhang, the first female editor of British Journal of Photography. They discuss Zhang's path into photography, her mission to balance tradition with the contemporary and her advice for those who want to get published.
  • In A Mobile Solution, Dave Williams discovers "an amazing update to Adobe Lightroom Mobile." He uses the new Healing tool's options to salvage a product shot.
  • The Pixelmator team has released Pixelmator Pro 3.2 with support for video layers, more video formats and video templates.
  • Derrick Story suggests Five Handmade Photo Gifts, although "handmade" is a stretch here. Still they are meaningful alternatives to shopping.
  • Adobe is Celebrating a Special Milestone, its 40th anniversary, with a list of 10 things you might not know about the company. Its first product was the page description language Postscript, which we used to write text files to create images on a QMS Postscript Printer. Still a fond memory.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
