In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at International Color Day, Geoff MacCormack, editing found images, post processing, Lightroom Mobile, Adobe Firefly and generative AI content.

  • Surprise, it's International Color Day. March 21 was selected due to its proximity to the equinox, in which day and night are equal, symbolic of the complementary nature of light and darkness.
  • Geoff MacCormack spent years Behind the Scenes With David Bowie on the road. His photographic memoir David Bowie: Rock‘n’Roll With Me reveals untold stories and nearly 150 candid photos.
  • Mike Johnston defends his B&W Tonality preferences when reader Moose edits two to add contrast. "I have my tastes and what they are is up to me," he writes. (True confession: we did the same thing Moose did with one of Johnston's black-and-white images because we wanted to see the difference. But unlike Moose we didn't publish it because it isn't our image. It was just a learning experience we've found useful for found images. For color images, we've found it illustrative to edit Lloyd Chambers's images. It can help to hone your skills on other people's images. But you do have to respect their work.)
  • In Finishing Moves, Dave Williams demonstrates the effect of his post processing on two iPhone images. "The power of the tools we have at our disposal is incredible," he writes. So use them.
  • Jason Row contributes A Guide to the Lightroom Mobile Camera App, which is a free download.
  • Julieanne Kost introduces Adobe Firefly, the new family of creative generative AI models coming to Adobe products. "With the beta version of the first Firefly model, you can use everyday language to generate extraordinary images and text effects," she writes. You can join the beta on the Firefly landing page.
  • Paul Melcher discusss Solving the Trust Issue With Generative AI Content. He suggests it "requires a holistic approach involving careful data selection, ethical guidelines, identification tools and ongoing monitoring."

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
