Ventura Update Disables DNP Printer Driver Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

26 July 2023

Yesterday's Ventura 13.5 security update has disabled DNP's printer on our M2 MacBook Pro. Attempts to print to the DS-620A all abort with a warning that "'rastertodnp' will damage your computer."

The offending application is a component of the DNP-DS.bundle printer driver in /Library/Printers/DNP. One possible workaround is to add it, as well as the bundle, to the Developer Tools settings exceptions that allow applications to run locally that do not meet Apple's security policy.

But that hasn't worked in this case.

Nor has removing and adding back the printer in Settings. Nor has reinstalling the a freshly-downloaded copy of the driver (same version), which reports the same error before aborting.

We've alerted DNP by email to its support address and will report any resolution to the issue.

We had previously been able to print to the DS-620A from Ventura. It's only been after the update that printing has been aborted.

Meanwhile, the problem does not occur on Monterey after yesterday's 12.6.8 update.

POSTSCRIPT

We never did hear from DNP (so we'll keep that clock above ticking) but we did discover the macOS driver was updated in August and that resolved the malware issue.
