In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the week in photos, Trump's mug shot, Vello extension tubes, out-of-fashion photo trends and film photography.
- Jim Powell presents The Week Around the World in 20 photos.
- In Disrupting Trump's Mug Shot and His 'Singular Genius', Michael Shaw compares media presentstions of the image. "Rather than publishing the mugshot on its own, the media should focus on the group as a whole, highlighting the collective responsibility," he writes.
- Julie Powell uses Vello extension tubes to shoot Macro Photography Without the Macro Lens. "It truly is a terrific addition to your travel kit, especially when trying to conserve weight," she writes. There's no glass in an extension tube but there are electrical contacts in these. Compare to the more expensive Kenko extension tubes.
- A Reddit poster wonders about Photo Trends, Techniques or Motifs that have gone out of fashion. And gets over 160 responses.
- At a dinner party, Mike Johnston was informed that film photography is back. It's Vintage, So It's Cool was the explanation. That would seem to imply that anyone over, say, 60 is cool. (Indeed, where's my cardigan?*)
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
