In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Kezar, John Emslie, the Moon, a colorized portrait and a contest cancellation.

  • Charles Russo presents historical photos of the San Francisco 49ers playing at Kezar Stadium in Golden Gate Park. "In its heyday, Kezar was a huge sports stadium that sat 59,000 in the middle of the city amid a very residential neighborhood," he writes. "The spectator experience there was lively, lo-fi and exceedingly blue collar." We were there, sitting with the other kids in the Christopher Milk Club cheering on Leo Nomellini, John Brodie, Bob St. Clair and the rest of our childhood heroes.
  • Grace Holliday talks to John Emslie about Erasmusbrug!, his best phone picture, shot with a Google Pixel 7. "The smartphone's 'brain,'" he says, "is so fast and clever that shots like this are made possible."
  • Dahlia Ambrose discusses how you can Photograph the Moon With an iPhone or an Android. A telescope doesn't hurt.
  • Kirk Tuck colorized a Portrait Scanned From Medium Format Film. "The original negative was shot with a Rollei 6008i and the Rollei 150mm f4.0 lens," he writes. He includes the black-and-white portrait and the color one done with Photoshop's neural filter but also of interest is the 100 percent crop of an eye, showing remarkable detail captured by the "7200+ x 7200+ multi-res scan."
  • In 'House' Baker's Dozen Cancelled, Mike Johnston announces, "An agitated individual has been harassing me over it and after consulting with several advisors I don't see a neutral way out." His Baker's Dozen contests invite readers to submit images on a theme he chooses. He picks 13 winners. Th "agitated individual" didn't actually submit an image, he notes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
