In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at International Women's Day, Leica Women Foto Project, Alpha Female Award Winner and Shortlist, bad jobs, an Istanbul commuter ferry, the Leica SL3, BorrowLenses and selling your gear.
- Matt Fidler curates images of International Women's Day around the world. The rallies "celebrate women's social, cultural and political achievements and protests against gender-based violence and inequality."
- Leica showcases the winners of the fifth edition of the Leica Women Foto Project. They include Luvia Lazo, Camille Farrah Lenain, Stasia Schmidt and Dola Posh.
- The World Photography Organization has announced its Alpha Female Award Winner and Shortlist. The award "celebrates striking images created by women in photography entering the Sony World Photography Awards Open competition."
- In Bad Jobs Often Follow a Prison Sentence They Want to Change That, Jeff Rae documents in words and photos a New York City program to create a pathway to union jobs for the formerly incarcerated. Great graduation photos at the end.
- Francisco Seco describes capturing A Distinctive Moment on an Istanbul commuter ferry. "I think the warm sunlight, composition and reflections work well in this photo," he writes. "Perhaps it is a moment of pause and calm among so much news of conflicts, pain and wars."
- It's So Much Fun When Leica Introduces a New Product, Kirk Tuck enthuses. He preordered the Leica SL3, "But when I really thought hard about it I came up with two scenarios that seem like a better use of my money." An interesting analysis follows.
- In LensRentals Acquires BorrowLenses, LensRentals posts a Q&A about the acquisition.
- Jason Row lists The Five Easiest Ways to Sell Your Spare Camera Gear. It includes a handy little table showing the five options with their fees and notes.
