In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at concrete, DesignEdit, an Apple Shortcut and People magazine.
- A photo of a boy flying a kite on the steps of the Teopanzolco Cultural Center in Mexico has been named Concrete in Life Photo of the Year. It was selected from some 21,000 entries in the annual global competition, run by the Global Cement and Concrete Association.
- John Nack highlights DesignEdit, AI-powered image editing From Microsoft Research Asia. "I'm delighted to say that my new teammates have been busy working on some promising techniques for performing a range of image edits, from erasing to swapping, zooming and more," he writes. Here's the research paper on it.
- In Picture This!, you'll see an Apple Shortcut constructed to take a photo, caption it (including a date) and save it to a Notes folder. Same for a video and audio clip.
- From May 10 to June 2, Fotografiska will exhibit People: Celebrating 50 Years, an archive of original covers and photographs from the magazine, as well as multimedia and interactive elements that invite visitors themselves to become cover stars.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
