In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at pictures of the week, a Welsh valley, Sachiko Saito, a soldier paying respects and tilt/shift or Photoshop.

  • Reuters posts 24 Pictures of the Week from around the world.
  • David J Shaw documents A Life of Hard Work on the Hills of a Welsh Valley. "The next generation of farmers inheriting the traditional lifestyle are also learning to be sustainable in a changing world order and environmental landscape," he writes.
  • In Dardo Is a Kurdish Word for Pain, Sophie Wright examines "Sachiko Saito's gentle collection of images" which portrays her neighbors as they grapple with identity, exclusion and cultural survival.
  • "I spotted a young-looking soldier from Number 9 Company Irish Guards on duty at the ceremony," Kristy Wigglesworth says of her image of A Soldier Paying His Respects on Armistice Day. "I used a 70-200mm lens so I could keep my distance and not disturb the ceremony. I captured a moment as he had hung his head in respect."
  • Jim Kasson shares his thoughts on On Shift, Pitch, Yaw and Sharpness after using the shift function of the Fujifilm 30/5.6 T/S lens and simulating similar results in Photoshop.

We've updated our Time Machine Diary this morning after a successful run on the M2 with Sequoia (iPhone Mirroring was the culprit). And there's always more to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
