In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Nations Face-Off Final, Greenland, Underwater Photographer of the Year, Ariana Gomez, file organization, a wooden camera and Visual Intelligence.

  • Photos of the Nations Face-Off Final won 3-2 by Canada over the U.S. in overtime reflect the politics that hung like dark clouds over the ice.
  • Associated Press photographer Emilio Morenatti depicts Daily Life in Greenland over a few days this month.
  • The 130 winners of the Underwater Photographer of the Year contest are on display along with videos of the backstory for the shots. Alvaro Herrero of Spain took the top honor.
  • In My Mother Speaks of Land as Memory, Ariana Gomez writes (and photographs) of lost land, family and identity, inviting you to step into a story of memory, migration and belonging. "After my father died, I realized I had never taken a single photo of him and this hung heavy on my conscience," she writes.
  • The staff at LensRentals offers Four Tips to Better Your File Organization. "If there is ever one universal truth about photographers, it's that they could be better organized," they write.
  • In How This Wooden Camera Won an International Award for Garden Photos, Nilofer Khan takes a look at the view camera Max Rush built from the same trees he was photographing. "The story of the trees' lives, growth, death and return to the soil is told in the wood of the camera itself, which shows the passage of the seasons, signs of dead wood-eating insect activity and the dark streaks of fungi," Rush says. But it has a digital back that moves a 35mm sensor across a 6x7cm grid.
  • Jay Peters reports Apple Is Bringing Visual Intelligence to the iPhone 15 Pro. As on the new iPhone 16e, you'll be able to active it with the Action button.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
