In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Reuters' photos of the week, a partial solar eclipse, a masked protester, the shopper-photographer scale and the Homestead.

  • Reuters presents 20 of its Pictures of the Week.
  • Lizzie Tucker presents photos of The Partial Solar Eclipse seen across the northern hemisphere.
  • Associated Press photographer Francisco Seco photographs A Masked Protester Undeterred by a Deluge of Pepper Spray in Turkey from a different angle than the lead Reuters shot linked above. "I think it works because 'the Dervish performer' shows calmness and peace in a violent situation," he writes.
  • Mike Johnston wonders, Where Are You on the Scale? That would be between being interested in gear or in taking photos.
  • Kevin Kelleher and Emily Trinh capture the ambiance of One of San Francisco's Oldest Bars, the Homestead on Folsom St. "It not only survived the Depression, Prohibition, two World Wars, Covid-19 and the city's two most devastating earthquakes, but the small corner bar with the peanut-covered floor was once even the scene of a murder," writes Nico Madrigal-Yankowski.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
