In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's week, Lexington Minute Men, Ankit Ghosh and the 1906 Earthquake Commemoration.

  • The Associated Press showcases its Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Anita Baca.
  • Lexington Minute Men Reenact Historic Battle That Sparked the American Revolution 250 Years Ago reenacts the historic event. "Two hundred and fifty years ago, shots fired in Lexington and Concord set off the Revolutionary War. A new nation, independent from Britain, was about to be born. Before dawn on Saturday, the Lexington Minute Men reenacted the infamous battle on the Lexington Battle Green. Later in the day, parades and other memorial events are being held in Lexington and Concord and other revolutionary towns in Massachusetts."
  • Grace Holliday presents Prometheus, Ankit Ghosh's best phone picture, a shot of his neighbor breathing fire captured on a Vivo X60. "The liquid in the air is kerosene [paraffin], which is spat upwards through a lit matchstick to create these cloudy flames," he says.
  • Abigail Vân Neely documents the 1906 Earthquake Commemoration in both words and photos. The festivities included members of the historical society singing San Francisco from the 1936 movie of that name and s new coat of gold getting sprayed on the Little Giant hydrant. You can see the old paint in our 2024 shot of the hydrant.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
