In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Mark Cohen, Pope Francis, Scott Lowden, print sales, tariffs and fake news.
- Mee-Lai Stone showcases Mark Cohen's photographs of his daily walks in New York in the 1970s from Tall Socks. The images show the world viewed from the height of a child.
- Reuters documents Pope Francis' Body Moved to St Peter's Basilica in 20 photos.
- Suzanne Sease presents Terra Nostra, the personal project of Scott Lowden. "Long exposures, soft focus and alternative lenses let light and atmosphere shape each frame, softening sharp edges in favor of emotion and mood," he explains. "These photographs prioritize feeling over documentation -- a visual sense of how a place lingers in memory and spirit."
- In Print Sale(s)!, Mike Johnston writes, "It looks like we are going to have a small sale of two of Bob's bird pictures. Bob is working on it. Also, Ctein is emigrating to Ireland in response to the Trumpocalypse and won't be taking his dye transfer archive with him (he'd have to pay import duty on his whole collection), so later in the Spring we'll have a bon voyage sale of some of his remaining rare dye transfers."
- In A Questionable Transition Into Summer, Thom Hogan writes, "June is going to be the start of a very difficult time for camera gear here in the US if this trade war goes on much longer."
- Paul Melcher explains How Weakening Copyright Helps Fake News. "When we erode copyright, we're not just harming creators -- we're compromising the very systems that allow us to distinguish real from fake origin from manipulation," he writes.
