Capture One Update Adds New Logo, AI Portrait Retouching Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

8 May 2025

While we did attend the online briefing, we found it impossible to actually access the press materials (including the beta) on Capture One's site.

Capture One has switched from its own password-protected scheme to a Microsoft-protected one, and we found that problematic. There wasn't just one brick wall to bust through but one after another.

Consequently we've asked the company to provide the materials and beta to us directly.

So this article is based on the briefing and appears a bit later than usual. We'll expand it after we get access to the beta. Meanwhile, read the Release Notes for the beta.

PRETTY NEW FACE

The new logo uses a sans-serif typeface to spell out the followed by a C circling an O in the same typeface, resembling a copyright mark (which is an encircled C). Spare but still elegant.

AI PORTRAIT RETOUCHING

Besides the logo's pretty new face, Capture One now adds AI-enhanced tools for portrait retouching. Those include:

  • Blemish Removal to smooth skin imperfections without removing texture
  • Even Skin to minimize larger blotches of uneven skin tone
  • Dark Circle Reduction to lighten bags under the eyes
  • Contouring to adjust contrast to reshape the face

All of those are adjusted using sliders and can be used in tethering mode. They can also focus on a single face or up to 20 faces in an image.

The edits are stored on an internal layer not accessible to the user but reversible all the same.

FILE SETUP

There have also been a few efficiencies added to the initial file setup Capture One requires.

The new Session Builder can automatically create a structure of folders for each shot you plan to take. You can create presets of these structures for reuse as well.

PRICE, AVAILABILITY

The company is releasing the new version as a public beta available this week.

A Capture One Pro subscription is $25/month or $15.75 monthly when purchased yearly. Collaboration tools can be added for $36/month or $22.83/month yearly. Teams can purchase a Studio subscription at $45.75/month yearly. And a one-time license is also available for $317.
