More About Everything

26 August 2021

Monday Jennifer the Other Physician's Assistant debrided Joyce's wound at the clinic. She said to let her know if we didn't get any supplies early in the week. And, as you might have guessed, we didn't.

So I emailed her on Wednesday evening when I saw the Byram truck go by without stopping. And today Cat the Physician's Assistant emailed us that she had put another urgent order in to Kaiser's Durable Medical Equipment team.

She also said they are having trouble getting Medicare approval of supplies. Which is what this is.

But this afternoon Byram called to say the order had at last been authorized and we should see delivery in one or two business days. You know, Friday or Monday. Although they do deliver on Saturdays.

This is kind of like waiting for delivery of a dryer (if you remember that odyssey). And don't mention the dryer to me. I think I've finally tracked the recurring noise problem to a vent rattle in the back, not blower fans in the front hitting the vent. We'll see on Sunday, which is wash day here.

This morning, Joyce got a call from Dr. Mui, who interviewed her for surgery. He asked about smoking, drinking, exercise and medications. And sleep apnea and snoring.

And then she talked to Nurse Rogers about preparing for surgery. Showering the night before, using the disinfectant, having her energy drink. Standard stuff.

She's scheduled for a Covid test on Sept. 7 and the first surgery of the day on Sept. 10 (barring any emergency). She'll have to get there around 5:30 a.m. and around 3:30 a.m. she'll have to get up to have the energy drink.

She also learned recently that Dr. Tong has scheduled Sept. 14 and Sept. 21 for additional surgeries. Just tee times, really, in case she needs them. The Sept. 10 surgery is technically a debridement and wound exploration. Depending on what they find, they'll likely do more surgery.

So she could be hospitalized for 10 days to two weeks this time around, although no one is saying. And thanks to the Delta variant, no visitors are being admitted in the hospital.

There, now you know what we know. Precious little.
