In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at landscapes, canyons, meteors, GPS receivers, network backups again and two production notes.

  • Reuters is cataloging its pictures of the year by subject, the most recent of which is Landscapes.
  • The Guardian takes a look at The World's Grandest Canyons.
  • Chandelis Duster shares some advice for viewing The Geminids Meteor Shower this week despite the Cold Moon, the last full moon of the year.
  • Derrick Story laments GPS Receivers Seem to Have Gone the Way of the dSLR. "With the exception of the Olympus OM-D E-M1x, most mirrorless cameras want you to connect to a smartphone app to geotag your images," he writes. So he found a GPS receiver that slides into the camera's hot shoe.
  • We'll just note that our Nightly Network Backup was blocked after the macOS 1.2 update earlier this week restored the iPhone Mirroring default setting that insisted on setting the Screen Lock. We reapplied our fix to get the unattended backups going again. Why doesn't Apple respect those changes?
  • This morning, before publishing anything, we discovered we've published 9,520 articles that amount to 5,929,874 words on this site since 2012. Mike Johnston notes he too has published A Lot of Words since 2005.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
