1 January 2015

As 2014 was winding down to its last few hours here, we archived the December issue of Photo Corners, the last number in Volume 3 of our Archive. The 59 stories we published included 15 Features, 19 commented news items, 18 Editor's Notes (including 56 items of interest in our Around the Horn articles), five reviews and two Site Notes.

OUR MOST POPULAR STORY in December was our pointer to the Camera Bits survey, followed by our Camera Raw release story. Public service is just in our blood, apparently.

Our Christmas matinee, a real (or should be say "reel") find from the newsreel days, was a close third.

Our obituary for Arthur Leipzip was right behind it. We take our obituaries seriously, particularly since the task to record the lives of those who have gone before us in this art seems to have fallen to us. They are some of our most lively pieces, celebrating creative genius by inspiring us to see the world in new ways.

No one knows what the future will bring. That's the fun of it.

Rounding out the top five was our Calendar Kit, which we recommend to you today especially. You can use template with your own image to build a 2015 calendar in just a few minutes.

Our matinees continue to score highly, as do our slide shows. So we'll keep at it in 2015, promise.

Our preview of Exposure 7 and our continuing review of the DNS DS40 printer were popular features, as well.

READERSHIP continued to climb with the highest number of unique sites this year, a 113 percent increase over last month. Pages, files and hits all exceeded last month as well, even though we published fewer stories.

For the year, we've served over 3.4 million pages, nearly triple what we served in 2013. We've optimized them a bit behind the scenes lately to deliver fewer files with each page but we still delivered over 4.0 million files.

WE WANT TO THANK those of you who used our affiliate links to order. We earned a commission from that, which is plowed right back into Photo Corners. That and your subscriptions support our efforts here.

We don't badger you with requests for support because we don't like being badgered ourselves. And these days everybody is badgering everybody else.

We trust that if we've provided a useful service to you, you'll find a way to express your appreciation. Our support page describes a variety of them.

IT SEEMS as each month ends we have more to write about. There's that Benson article we've been promising for years (and is distilling like a fine Armagnac), the conclusion to our video project (which hit an interesting road block), the last piece of our DS40 review, all unfinished projects and all still on the stove.

Then there's the uncharted stuff. We have a series planned on upgrading your computer to handle not just your images but the new ecosystem. How did our phones get to be more adroit than our laptops? And we do plan to write a lot more about smartphone photography without neglecting the meat and potatoes of the art and craft of photography.

No one knows what the future will bring. That's the fun of it. But we plan to be part of it. And we invite you to come along for the ride. Back seat drivers are appreciated here, by the way. Just use the Feedback button to let us know how we're driving.
